Founder and Lead
Dr. Shanu Sushmita is an assistant teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Seattle.
As a researcher, Sushmita focuses on machine learning techniques and the application side of information retrieval. In 2012, her doctoral work was recognized as among the most interesting of the year by the ACM SIGIR newsletter. As her career has progressed, Sushmita has grown interested in finding ways to use these technologies to make a better world. While at Khoury College, Sushmita is interested in further exploring AI ethics and the concept of responsible AI, including by leading the “AI for Good” research group at Seattle campus.
Dr. Sushmita joined Khoury College because of the opportunities the college offered to expand and focus on research. She also remains affiliated with the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington as an assistant professor.
When not working, Sushmita is an avid traveler.
